Pumpkin pie crumbs!

~

This Thanksgiving was spent with our friends, the Cushings, just around the corner. We all had too much to eat, but loved every bite! We had a deep fried turkey this year and a new side dish of dumplings. Yummy Yummy! Jailee loves pumpkin pie and couldn't get enough - as well as Jemma. Tonight we'll watch the traditional Christmas Vacation flick, eat more leftovers, and head out for York in the morning. Stay full!

Fireworks in November?!

Britain - November 5, 1605
A group of conspirators set out to burn down parliament, basically a religious battle between the catholics and King James I. After realizing that not only would parliament burn, but innocent people as well, there was a leak to a member of parliament through a letter warning the member not to be present on Nov 5. The King got wind of this letter and had the building searched. Guy Fawkes ( http://www.infoplease.com/spot/guyfawkes.html )was found in the cellar of parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. He was apprehended, tortured, and killed. Today the British remember this day by having huge bonfires and fireworks. It's been rumored that many British wonder whether the celebration is because the King was saved or the attempt to destroy government. :o)

~

Whatever the reason for celebration - the presentation was great!

Jailee stayed awake for the whole thing - Just like July 4th!

~

The weather has been unbelievably pleasant for this time of year. We remember being here in 2005 and waiting for our stuff to be dropped off so we could have winter coats! As you can see above, we dressed for chilly weather, but had to shed a few layers as the night was wonderful. We did get a bit of rain after the show, but nothing to complain about, like in our home state of Washington. We hear there's been flooding galore! Still, we miss it! Signing out for now - Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

Beer and bottles

Yep, we have a baby. Sometimes it's still hard to believe. Today I was watching Jailee play on the floor and Jemma joined in. Jailee was laughing out loud - tons! She's so special, the best gift in the world. While taking our daily walk today I noticed how much more interactive she's become. She wants to touch everything! Pretty soon we'll have to keep a close eye on her in the grocery store so that no unexpected items end up coming home with us. She loves to smile and also has begun babbling more and more. Of course her "words" are da da da da! No, she doesn't know what she's saying, just practice! Sometimes while playing in her exersaucer she begins laughing out loud like she's told herself a joke that only she understands. Boy, I never thought I'd spend my days like this, just like I never thought our refrigerator would look like this:

Our world has changed - definitely for the better!

~

Everything is going well on this side of the pond. I've finished my first Term of school and managed to get an A in accounting - I know, hard to believe. This term I'm taking the second accounting class required and a research class as well; busy busy busy. Jim got home on the 20th YEAH!!!!!!! He's been on mid shift for a week, is working weekend duty this weekend, and will have two more night shifts before going back to days. So,...even though he's home, he's gone a lot so we're still missing having him home, and awake, the same times that we are. Soon we'll be back to the normal routine. We did manage to get to Sandrinham Estate with some friends of ours before Jim's night shifts started so will post some pictures of that visit soon.

~

Weather has turned chilly, the radiators are on now, and no more flip flops so I don't have to worry about pretty toes. Good thing because I haven't found a decent pecidcurist since I've been here. That's an important thing for a girl - especially one who's shoe size has changed since being pregnant and who hasn't bothered to buy new shoes!

~

A few more bites of British brilliance:

You don't wait in a line you wait in a que

Tire is spelled Tyre and Center is spelled Centre

You don't go to the hospital, you "go to hospital" (no "the")

A surgery is a clinic, You don't have surgery you are in theatre

You don't wear a swimsuit you wear a Swimming Costume (or a speedo if you're a sexy overweight father out for a day of leisure with the family - ick!)

The burner on your stove is a Hob and yes, every home is equipped with radiators instead of central heat, hardly ever do you find air conditioning.

Until next time,......jx4

Pumpkin Pickin Time

The British don't officially celebrate Halloween, but being so close to the base many of the local farmers cater to the American holiday so we were able to take Jailee to her first pumpkin patch.

Happy Halloween

Jailee's first Trick or Treat!! She was a real trooper and had a great time. It was about 43F with gusty winds, but our little buzzy bee was bundled up with thick tights and a longsleeve onsie underneath her cozy costume! Mommy kept warm with hot cider and somthin' somthin' while daddy kept it cool and tried to stay awake for his night shift later that evening.

Windsor Castle

This past weekend Grama Joyce, Jailee, and I took a road trip to Windsor Castle. I borrowed a GPS and have decided that it is the best invention ever! Although it may take you along a different route than you would have chosen for yourself, you still get there in the desired time and without worries that normally come along with UK driving! Below are a few pics from the trip. Although we would have loved to have had Jailee's smiling face in the photos she was sleeping in the stroller and couldn't be seen while we were outside. While indoors there is no photography allowed so no one will get to see her little feet standing on royal carpets! I do have to report that she was an angel while inside. :o)
~
We're in!

The British flag is flying so the queen is not in residence today.

On our way to see the Queens Dollhouse and the State rooms

Inside the "Quadrangle"

Grama Joyce with St George's Chapel in the background.
We didn't get to go inside the chapel due to services in session.

Grama Joyce with two of the guards at St. Georges Gate.

I tried to get them to arrest her, but no go!

Your chariot awaits, Madame!

More Baby Pics

Ok, Ok,..... I know that a lot of you are looking at the blog and saying, "more baby pictures, c'mon man we want to see some of the sights of Europe", in due time my friends, but until then, here you go.............
~
Jailee can sit up for about 2 seconds and then she topples over - hence the blurred picture! This is her fisherman shorts outfit from Grama Joyce
~

We've opted for sitting up in the stroller like a big girl even though we're strapped in tight and a blanket will have to go over our lap and on either side to prevent a little sliding.

~

Here's her new dress from Grama Joyce

~

Jailee and her Boppy! While learning to sit up with the Boppy behind her we thought a little break was in order, so relaxing a bit. As you can see she's getting a little more hair - at least enough to brush into a curl or stick up like a Cupie Doll.

An update on school, I got an A on my first test!!! I was pretty excited about that. Now I'm studying for the next one and it's a bit tougher so crossing not only my eyes but my fingers, toes, legs,....you get the picture! Jim is still at the Academy in Germany - hey that rhymes! We miss him tons, but are fortunate enough to get to talk to him every day. This past weekend he and some of the other students went to a wine festival. He'd heard that German wine wasn't so great, but it turned out to be pretty good so he'll be bringing home a couple souveniers. He said the "taste" was about an 8oz pour, and that was the small glass, so he only went to two tables. The festival included not only the tasting tents, but food booths, and carnival rides. I guess it's sort of like a county fair only larger and without the local farm stuff. We may plan a trip over there next year for the same event. Well I guess that's it for now.
